I'm giving this a 3.5, but will round it up to the four because it was a good read. I picked it up because I needed a break from all the UF I've been reading, and it hit the spot perfectly! This is a very enjoyable high fantasy, set in a refreshingly eastern world. The role of the dragons and the dragoneyes was interesting, and the characters we met were rich in depth and authenticity.

As much as I enjoyed the book, though, I found myself almost skimming the last couple of chapters for two main reasons. First, I'd figured out the Big Reveal quite early on, and was becoming increasingly impatient with Eon's blindness to the truth. It felt like the world was bludgeoning her over the head with it (and consequently doing the same to me), but she was just too stuck in her preconceptions to realize it. Second, a lot of what was happening at the very end just didn't seem to matter in the grand scheme of things. It was like the amount of time spent describing what was happening didn't match the pace of the plot at all.

Still, it was well worth the effort to get through. I'm excited to see what will happen next.
