Overall: Light, fast-paced and sassy. Not much depth or angst, but lots and lots of fun!

The Good Stuff:

1) I've been in the mood for light, entertaining reads lately and this book definitely and unashamedly hit the spot. There's lots of action to keep things lively, and no real grit or angst to deal with.

2) Oh Betsy - what a fantastic character! She's wonderfully sassy and strong, as well as vain and sometimes shallow. I like that she's not a genius, but she's savvy and can definitely hold her own...for the most part. She's also fiercely loyal to her friends and a kick ass secretary, which I can totally get behind. :)

3) I like that so many of the characters are ambivalent - not that they don't care about anything, but that they don't easily fit into the "good" or "bad" categories. Each carries their own set of motivations and backgrounds that inform their actions, making it hard to totally dismiss or make assumptions about them.

The Not-So-Good Stuff:

1) While the overall tone of the book was fairly light-hearted, there sure was a whole lot of squicky sex. I mean, I get that they're vampires with the mojo and stuff that comes along with it, but I didn't really need to read all the details, you know?

2) I'll confess this up-front: I am currently wearing shoes that don't match my outfit because I personally find it ridiculous to have to buy shoes for each and every occasion. As such, I'm not a big fan of the "women love shoes" trope. I do understand it, though, and don't judge those who love shoes - to each their own. That being said, are you seriously telling me that the only way to get Betsy to agree to take out Nostro at the risk of her own life was to buy her shoes? Seriously? And never mind that the few vamps that she knows have supposedly been killed or she's in danger of being killer herself, the way to hurt her is to tell her that those shoes have been destroyed? I mean, come on! I get that it was supposed to be funny, but that seemed a bit much.
