(Book #1 of the White Trash Zombie series)
Rating: 🍁🍁🍁
I enjoyed this book, once I got over a bit of squeamishness when reading the far-too-detailed descriptions of the "food" Angel eats. *shudder* With My Life as a White Trash Zombie, Diana Rowland has successfully set the stage for a fun series.
The Good Stuff:
1) Angel is such a great character, and Rowland has done a fantastic job of depicting her growth from a pill-popping loser with no sense of self-worth to a confident and capable woman...or rather, zombie. I can't wait to see how she'll continue to grow as the series continues.
2) I love, love, love that the zombies are (mostly) functioning members of society, who just happen to have to eat human brains in order to keep from decomposing and going all 'Night of the Living Dead'.
The Not-So-Good Stuff:
1) Like a lot of other first books, this one suffers from the need to set up plot, characters and world-building for an entire series. It's pretty heavy on the back story and somewhat tedious pondering on Angel's part about why everything is happening and what it all means and how to live life as a zombie. As a result, the book is a bit of a slog at times, especially in the middle.
