(Book #1 of The Portal series)
Rating: 🍁🍁
An okay read. I liked the concept, with the past lives, witch/priest cooperation, etc. The characters were well fleshed out, and there was a palpable sense of chemistry between Indy and Tomas. Pronounced "toe-MAS", as we're annoyingly instructed multiple times throughout the book. (Writers: if you have to tell me how to pronounce your character's name, don't bother. It will always, ALWAYS come across as contrived.)
The main problem with the book was the pacing. The first third was good, with a compelling set-up for the series and introduction to the major players. And the last third was good, with an action-packed conclusion and HEA (albeit a slightly cheesy one). The middle? So. Very. Slow. I ended up skimming it, and didn't miss much.
Still, a light, entertaining read.
