Thank you, Kevin Hearne, for writing this book. If I could figure out how, I would give this rating another half a maple leaf, just for bringing Oberon into the world.

Seriously, Hounded has pretty much everything I love in a book: a fantastic story, a crisp and clean writing style, lots of action, characters I wish I knew in real life, a coherent and wonderfully imagined world, a wickedly intelligent sense of humour, skank-less cover art...the list could go on. An excellent novel to introduce a newbie to the world of urban fantasy.

I only have two issues with the entire thing, and they're relatively minor. First, in my mental image of Atticus there's no goatee. There's something fishy about a character who doesn't have the wherewithal to either shave it all off, or commit to growing a full beard. Fortunately, Atticus' facial hair is only mentioned briefly at the beginning, so it was easy to imagine away.

Second, I get that Atticus has a special connection with the earth, being a Druid and all, but there were a couple of times when the incredibly detailed descriptions of the Arizona wilderness got in the way of the story.

Like I said, minor things.

Go read this book. I promise you'll like it.
