(Book #4 of the Parasol Protectorate series)
Rating: 🍁🍁🍁🍁
Much better! I was afraid after my disappointment with the last book that this series was going to be a slog. I'm very happy to report that it was incredibly enjoyable. All the same wit and whimsy that I so enjoyed, plus some significant character development in all my favourite supernaturals. I only had 2 real issues with the book.
First, the "kill the queen" plot...or was it a subplot?...seemed very incidental and contrived. It successfully allowed for the aforementioned character development, which was great, but just seemed so out of character for one of the characters who shall remain nameless so as to avoid spoilers that I couldn't buy into it. Second, we get that Alexia was large and pregnant. It didn't need to be repeated, however wittily, on every single page.
Still, I so enjoy this world. I'll be queuing up the next in the series post-haste.
