(Book #1 of the Alpha & Omega series)
Rating: 🍁🍁🍁🍁
This series has been on my to-read list for quite a while, but I couldn't find a copy through my local library. Then I remembered the existence of audiobooks. Success!
I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Briggs' further excursion into the world she created in her Mercy Thompson series. While you don't need to read it first to understand what's going on, doing so will probably make it easier to pick up on references to people/places/things. Plus, it's a fantastic series, so you should read it anyway.
What you do need to read before this is the novella Alpha and Omega. I was half-way through the first chapter of Cry Wolf when I had to stop because I felt like I'd walked in to the middle of a story rather than the beginning. Nothing made sense, no one was really introduced, actions were taken that weren't explained. I thought I'd inadvertently picked up the second book in the series, but after checking over on Goodreads discovered the existence of the novella. It sets the stage and introduces all the players.
Otherwise, this is a great read. I love the relationship between Anna and Charles, and the further insight into Bran and the Aspen Creek werewolf pack. The plot was riveting, the characters real, and the writing top notch.
My only beef was with the narrator of the audio book. His Charles sounded like a caveman with a really bad cold, and his Anna like a weakling, which she was not.
