Michelle Sagara's Chronicles of Elantra is one of my all-time favourite series. Elantra is a world full of magic, mystery, and characters that leap off the page and immerse you in their lives and stories. That being said, Cast in Sorrow has been my least favourite of the series thus far.

It picks up immediately after the previous book leaves off, with Kaylin, Severn, Nightshade and the Barrani court travelling to the West March to visit the heart of the Green. Where the story shines is in it's development of Teela's story, and the history of the Barrani. There are also brief glimmers of Nightshade and Severn's stories.

What made the book so difficult was that it focused so heavily on the magic, which is always a confusing, heavy slog for me. I get the sense that it is for Kaylin as well, so maybe that's as it should be. Still, it wasn't particularly enjoyable.

I'm still in love with the series, though, so am impatiently waiting for the next installment.
