This series is growing on me. I came out of the first book (Cast in Shadow) intrigued but not entirely sold, mainly because Kaylin borders on being Too Stupid to Live. Yes, I know she has issues and is all street and impulsive, but there were times that I just wanted to reach into the book and smack her.
While there were similar moments this time around, they seemed to be less numerous. I love the new insight gained into the Barrani, and am dying to find out what Nightshade has planned. The way Sagara dealt with Kaylin and Severn's relationship was a pleasure to read as well - gritty, raw and real.
I'll definitely be getting my hands on the next book in the series
