(Book #1 of the Beka Cooper series)
Rating: 🍁🍁🍁🍁
First Reading (paperback)
Oh my gosh. This may be a great story, but I'll never know since I couldn't get past the incredibly difficult to read and irritating first chapter. From what I could tell, the story is told through a series of journal entries from different characters, which is an interesting concept. And I get that not all of those characters were educated, but surely there's a way to convey this less painfully than to tangle the grammar and spelling to the point where I had trouble deciphering what it was the character was trying to say!
Second Reading (audiobook)
Audiobook was definitely the way to go for this one! What a wonderful story. I loved Beka and all her friends, and it was fun to visit Tortall again so long after the events of Pierce's other series. Great fun - highly recommended!
