Star of the Morning by Lynn Kurland

The Good Stuff:

1) Morgan and Miach. I love them both. Especially Miach. Their romance is sweet and fun, without being gag-worthy, in the midst of an epic quest to thwart the evil forces threatening the Nine Kingdoms.

2) This is a character-driven novel, and Ms. Kurland has created some truly wonderful secondary characters. From the assinine, but ultimately responsible, King Adhemar, to the earnest young son of...I can't remember his name. Huh. But he was fun.

3) Normally, I find jumping around from POV to POV a little jarring but Ms. Kurland switches between the different characters seamlessly and effectively.

The Not-So-Good Stuff:

1) It was a little slow to get started, though that's fairly typical in the first book of a series as the author lays the groundwork for all the events/characters to come.

2) Holy cliffhanger, Batman! We're left at the end without any real resolution at all. Boo!

Overall, a quick, fun read - "fantasy light". Just make sure you have the next book handy.
