I started reading this a while ago, based on the recommendation of a friend. As always, I tried to maintain an open mind while reading, but I just couldn't enjoy it. Not because of the whole BDSM thing, but because the book is full of dry, slow plot and characters I didn't like. There was potential for an interesting world, but after reading 100+ pages (and giving up), I still had no idea what was going on outside of the plot device that Phedre's enjoyment of having the crap beaten out of her would somehow make her a good spy for the guy who owned her? Yeah, that's only slightly problematic.
