(Book #2 of the Alex Craft series)
Rating: 🍁🍁🍁🍁
Normally, when I come across a series that I really enjoy, I power through the entire series (or as much of it as is published) in a fairly short amount of time. That's not how it happened in this case, though. I read the first book (Grave Witch) a long, long time ago, and then for some reason it got pushed to the back of the line. Then shortly after I started Grave Dance, we decided to move. So it took me an inordinately long time to read.
I'm telling you all this to say that despite all the craziness and disruption, Grave Dance was a great read! I enjoy the world Kalayna Price has created, with the different planes of existence and Alex's connections and abilities on the various levels. The characters continue to be complex and compelling, and Alex actually has meaningful, caring relationships with other women who are her peers. A woman with friends who are girls - imagine!
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm also enjoying the whole love triangle thing. *waiting for lightning bolt* While I'm not a huge fan of Falin's, he does seem to legitimately care for Alex. And Death. Hoo boy! Dark, mysterious, and smoking hot. Yum. I don't envy Alex having to choose between them, which I'm assuming she'll have to do at some point.
The only major beef I have is the breakneck speed at which the story takes place. Seriously, if things went down like that in real life (I know, I know, it's not real life, but bear with me), Alex would have died from starvation or exhaustion by halfway through the book! Grave witch/emerging fae cannot live on caffeine alone.
