Argh! I am getting so frustrated with this series. Ms. Sagara is an amazing author in so many ways, and lush, imaginative worlds and characters drip from the pages (enough to still rate this a three maple leaf book). But for the past couple of installments in this series there has been so much time spent trying to explain the incredibly difficult to understand magic system that things like plot and character building have fallen by the wayside. I got to the end of Cast in Honor only to feel like no progress had been made in any way by any of the characters. We don't even find out why the big catastrophe that Kaylin manages to stave off happened in the first place.
So frustrating. I'm invested enough in the series and have enough trust in Ms. Sagara to keep going, but there had better be some kind of development in the next book!
